It is effective as a treatment or a preventative against certain types of bacteria. Rifampin treats all forms of tuberculosis. For this purpose it is never used alone, but in combination with at least one other agent that treats tuberculosis. Rifampin also treats carriers of meningitis and for this purpose it is given alone. Generic rifampin capsules are available.
