Ceftin

Ceftin is the brand name for cefuroxime axetil and is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat various types of bacterial infections. It has been shown effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, making it suitable for conditions like upper and lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and early Lyme disease.

How Does Ceftin Work?

Ceftin works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, leading to the death of the bacteria causing the infection. Its broad-spectrum activity and oral administration make it a convenient option for patients.

Clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of Ceftin and cefuroxime axetil. For instance, a study published in the Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy journal found that a 5-day course of cefuroxime axetil at 250 mg twice daily was as effective as a 10-day regimen in treating acute bronchitis, with fewer gastrointestinal side effects compared to amoxicillin-clavulanate.

Another study indicated that the addition of intranasal fluticasone to Ceftin therapy improved clinical success rates and accelerated recovery in patients with acute bacterial rhinosinusitis.
